Bilingual Director of Finance

Location: Oakville, Ontario, Canada
As the Bilingual Director of Finance, this position oversees and directs all aspects of the financial and accounting department activities, including budgeting and forecasting activities within the Canadian operations. 

Key Responsibilities
  • As a member of the Canadian Senior Leadership team, this role plays a significant part in the ongoing management and direction of the Canadian operation.
  • Reporting of reliable, accurate and timely financial information in accordance with company policy, applicable laws and standards
  • Provides leadership and direction in the timely preparation, control, completion and balance of the annual budget process
  • Responsible for fixed asset reporting and ensuring that asset and liabilities of the company are properly controlled and effectively managed
  • Perform monthly analyses of all departmental expenses as well as all balance sheet accounts against budget/forecast and prior year
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant financial government regulatory bodies and compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Audit existing inventory cycle counting program for adherence to established procedures and inventory accuracy
  • Works with sales and marketing in establishing guidelines and procedures for the calculation of rebate programs.
  • Responsible for all treasury functions as it relates to the Canadian operation
  • Prepare working papers for year-end tax returns
  • Coordinate the external audit process as well as all government audits
  • As an Officer and Director of the company, performs such duties as required by this office including being an authorized signatory and preparing yearly resolutions
  • Develop strong working relationships and provide support to all members of the division team as well as the international finance team
  • Effective leadership regarding the management and development of staff in the Accounting Department and Human Resources.
  • Lead the implementation of internal processes, overseeing they are being used properly across all of the organization.
  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience as a Controller.
  • Must be a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA).
  • Experience in senior financial management control role in an international corporation with high level of interaction with US management.
  • Experience with carrying out supervisory responsibilities; assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Must be able to set priorities, utilize good judgment in problem solving, pay attention to detail and take the initiative by recognizing areas where issues may arise.
  • Proficiency in using MS office products.
  • French/English fluency is mandatory.
  • A strong business sense and ability to deal with problems involving many variables.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities, within corporate objectives.
